Information technology talent is in high demand across N.C., according to a recent report from Tech Talent Trends. A record high, almost 50,000 job openings in the IT industry occurred in March, amounting to a 31% jump since last year, reported WRAL.
According to Brooks Raiford, CEO of NC Tech, “The first quarter of 2022 has mimicked past patterns of accelerated hiring after a holiday slow-down; we are interested to see whether hiring dips after this quarter or remains high due to ongoing demand.”
Why we’re seeing that information technology talent is in high demand across N.C.:
One obvious reason for this steep increase in the high demand for IT talent across the state is that virtually every company needs an IT department and IT talent. In fact, the top 10 companies seeking tech talent were not all high tech:
- Deloitte
- Wells Fargo
- Humana
- Bank of America
- Accenture
- PwC
- KPMG
- EY
- General Dynamics Information Technology
- Microsoft
Additionally, it’s all part of a nationwide increase in the demand for talent well-versed in the technology industry.
Other North Carolina cities that experienced a jump in IT job openings include:
- New Bern: 372%
- Goldsboro: 1,092%
- Greenville: 115%
- Jacksonville: 78%
- Fayetteville: 38%
- Wilmington: 43%
